Off road excursions

Off-road excursions offer a way to admire first-hand the uncontaminated nature and wildlife of zones such as Barbagia and Ogliastra, but also a way of touring the hinterland of the island. During these excursions, there is a typical lunch with the local shepherds.
The comfortable Land-Rovers are especially suited to families or for the more "lazy" of us, as some of the excursions can also be undertaken on foot. This is, however, surely a better way as you can visit more places in one day.

• Itinerary: Gola di Gorropu

It is the deepest canyon in Europe, at 494m with a length of over 5km. Transfer in off-road vehicle to the canyon of Gorropu with tour of the internal, where you can admire the sheer cliff walls and the various species of plant life. An important archaeological site in the area is the Mereu di Gorropu nuragic ruin, situated among the lush woodlands.

Transfer in off-rod vehicle towards Dorgali, crossing the valley of Lanaittu, a visit to the karstic springs of Su Gologone, trekking of around an hour to the base of Mount Tiscali, an a visit to the nuragic village. This village is found in a chasm, and was built in 535BC by the inhabitants of Lanaittu to escape from the Roman invaders. It was built at this strategic point where the only possible entry point is via a narrow natural chasm, where the villagers could block the invaders with relative ease, and is regarded as an authentic wonder. After lunch there is a tour of the caves of "Sa Oche" (the voice), and the nuragic temple used by the water cult "Sos Carros".

• Other off-road itineraries

Il Supramonte di Urzulei - one of the most provocative corners of the zone, towards the heart of the National Park of Gennargentu. Secular forests, deep canyons, and nuragic towers of white limestone.
Il Supramonte di Orgosolo - realm of the mouflon and the royal eagle, it is also possible to observe one of the few remaining forests of ilex.
Altopiano di Baunei - a variable itinerary that allows you to admire the plains of Golgo, and subsequently the coves of Cala Luna and Cala Sisine. Visit the hamlet of Margine, near Baunei, or "Belvedere" where there are breathtaking views of the entire region of Ogliastra.
Gennargentu - an itinerary departing from Arzana, towards Lake Flumendosa, Perda Liana and the peaks of Gennargentu. On foot you can reach the peak of Punta La Marmora, at a height of 1,834m.
I tacchi di Osini - departing from the village of Osini, a visit to the old district, the Stairs of San Giorgio (a natural monument), the nuragic village, and the Neolithic tombs.
